Comment
Although the composition had been related sometimes with an antique relief, Massari in Rome 1993 argues that the invention shall be attributed to Giulio Romano, on the basis of analogies in his works. The model for the central group is the drawing in Chatsworth, Devonshire Collection, inv. no. 57, by an artist from Raphael's circle.
