Comment
The figures in the series seem to derive from the descriptions of Cesare Ripa's Iconologia, published in Rome 1603, illustrated with woodcuts based on the designs attributed to Giuseppe Cesari. The series was completed by Raffaello Schiaminossi's assistant Giovan Battista Mercati in 1616.
