Comment
For the original print published by Giacomo Franco in 1610, see British Museum, inv. no. 1868,0822.8552. The original was the frontispiece for the series 'Habiti d'uomini e donne Venetiane con la processione della Ser.ma Signoria et altri particolari, cioè trionfi, feste et ceremonie publiche della nobilissima Città de Venetia', which formed a bound set of 20 plates (see British Museum inv. nos. 1868,0822.8552 to 8673). The plates are different from Franco's other series 'Habiti delle donne veneziane' of c.1610 which show one or two figures in fine costumes, rather than scenes from Venetian life. The British Museum database mentions a note by Popham stating that the original print was designed by Palma Giovane.
