Comment
Based on the composition of Raphael's Vatican tapestries. Although the preparatory studies for the cartoon are lost, copies of the left third (Christie's, 25 June 1968, lot 134) and central third of the composition (Nuremberg, Germanisches Nationalmuseum, inv. no. 12097) have survived. The latter may have provided the model for Battista Franco's engraving. The composition was also etched by Parmigianino (Bartsch XII.78.27 and Bartsch XVI.9.7).
