Comment
According to Albricci 1980, the print may derive from a preparatory drawing for the fresco cycle, today almost completely lost, painted by Paolo Farinati, Battista del Moro and assistants c. 1587-88 in the Loggia of Palazzo Murari a San Nazaro, Verona. A drawing in the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, inv. no. 1428/1863, is close to this print, especially to its central figure, but may not have been preparatory for the etching. Dillon in Verona 1980 mentions an other related drawing of satyrs in the British Museum, inv. no. 1874,0808.29 verso. A seventeenth-century drawing in the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich, inv. no. 2990, is probably a copy after a drawing for this print.
