Comment
There is a related drawing in reverse in the British Museum, inv. no. SL,5224.69, which was probably the model also for the gonfalone, already lost, commissioned in 1576 by Gerolamo della Torre (see the artist's 'Giornale', Puppi, 1968, pp. 18-19) for the Church of San Giovanni in Foro, Verona. The etching is almost the same size as the drawing, but the latter shows no sign of having being indented and it is likely that the outlines were traced onto another sheet of paper. Another related drawing was sold at Sotheby's London, 13-14 January, 1989, lot 162.
