Comment
The preparatory drawing by Parmigianino, indented for transfer, is preserved in the Graphische Sammlung, Weimar, inv. no. KK 7393, see Popham 1971, no. 631. As David Landau (in Landau and Parshall, p. 154) noted, Caraglio's work after Parmigianino involved a fairly free interpretative component and the engraver did not repeat the original expression precisely. The last letter of the monogram is interpreted as indicating Caraglio's Veronese birthplace.
