Comment
The print reconstructs the Colosseum, combining ground plan with sectional, interior, and exterior elevations. Michael Bury in 2001 demonstrates that the ultimate model for the print was one published by Antonio Salamanca in 1538, engraved by Girolamo Fagiuoli after a drawing by Domenico Giuntalochi. Lafreri had had a copy made, which has been attributed to Beatrizet (Hülsen no. 18a/b). As Francesco Duchetti inherited Lafreri's Colosseum plate, Claudio Duchetti had this copy made by Brambilla to have a range of subjects comparable to that of his late uncle.
