Comment
Part of a series of three engravings executed by Giulio Bonasone in the mid-1540s, after designs by Perino del Vaga intended to decorate papal copes. Vasari mentioned eight scenes drawn by Perino, see TIB 2803.071 and Massari no. 103. There is a related drawing by Perino in the Uffizi (inv. no. 1496E), and another in Rome, Gabinetto Nazionale delle Stampe (inv. no. FC 6397, scat. 34) recognized by Massari as the preparatory drawing for Bonasone's print.
