Comment
Titlepage to the series Bartsch XV.149.146 to XV.152.164. The prints in the set are Giulio Bonasone's own inventions but clearly influenced by Jacopo Caraglio's Loves of the Gods (Bartsch XV.72.9 to XV.76.23). Bonasone was not the author neither of the verses in the margin or the retouches appearing in third state impressions: the margins are abraded and in some cases Bonasone's name was damaged during these alterations. Frederick G. Schab in his review of Massari's book in Print Quarterly 2 (1985), p. 60 draws attention to the lack of Massari's explanation why she considered the impressions before all letters as second states.
