Comment
Although no drawing by Parmigianino for the composition has survived, it reflects his painting The Mystic Marriage of St Catherine as well as his Madonna with St Margaret, Bologna, Pinacoteca, both engraved by Giulio Bonasone. There are several printed variants of the composition, among others by Marco del Moro and Vespasiano Strada. According to Chiara Callegari's note on the mat, this is a fourth state impression.
