Comment
The composition derives from Parmigianinesque models. In Richardson's opinion, the print belongs to the mature phase of Schiavone's parmigianinesque style, comprising also Francesco Salviati's influence. The print served as the source for Jacopo Bassano's painting of The Way to Calvary, in the Bradford collection, Weston Park. According to Chiara Callegari's note on the mat, it is a first state impression.
