Comment
The engraving had generally been considered an early work by Agostino Carracci after Annibale's design. According to Bohn in TIB, although no drawing by Annibale is known for this print, the composition and figure types confirm his invention. Bohn claimed the execution is more problematic, but she found strong similarities with Annibale's earliest engraving and concluded the print was executed primarily by Annibale, with some assistance from Agostino. This raises interesting questions about the relationship of the two brothers during their joint visit to Venice in 1582, see Charles Dempsey's review of Bohlin's catalogue in Print Quarterly 2 (1985), p. 66.
