Comment
The print is Agostino Carracci's own design influenced by the antiquities he saw in Rome. A drawing formerly in the Ellesmere Collection, London, is probably an early study by Agostino. The pose of the child derives from Parmigianino's Madonna of the Long Neck (Uffizi, Florence), while the Virgin's gesture of raising the veil is similar to the Parmigianino's Madonna della Rosa.
