Comment
After one of Jacopo Tintoretto's four allegories painted in 1577-78 for the Atrio Quadrato of Palazzo Ducale, Venice, transferred in the 18th century to the Sala dell' Anticollegio and located there also today. Agostino Carracci widened the scene horizontally, completed the figure of Abundance at left, and added the landscape behind Mars. First state impressions bore the date 1589, which was burnished out from later states. This is a companion piece to Bartsch XVII.104.117, see inv. no. 6058.
