Comment
Derives from Giulio Romano's drawing in reverse preserved in Torino, Biblioteca Nazionale, inv. no. 15787, which is a copy after Giulio Romano. According to Massari in Rome 1993, the River God resembles to that in Giovanni Battista Scultori's engraving Allegory of the River Po, the prototype of which derives from the Antique. The plate was listed in the inventories of de' Rossi before it entered the collection of Calcografia, Rome. It has A Faun Playing Pipes with a Nymph and a Putto engraved on its recto, see inv. no. 5412.
