Comment
Probably after Giulio Romano's drawing after an antique sculpture, and related with the fresco in Giulio's house in Mantua. See Hartt, Giulio Romano, New Haven 1958, II, fig. 498. Massari in Rome 1993 noted that the figure is also similar to Apollo's statue in Raphael's School of Athens, and to Giulio's drawing representing the Apollo Saurochtonos, preserved in the Louvre, inv. no. 3486. The plate was in the possession of de' Rossi before it entered the collection of the Calcografia, Rome.
