Comment
After Francesco Primaticcio's fresco in the Pavillon de Pomone at Fontainebleau (1532-35), pendant to Rosso Fiorentino's Vertumnus and Pomone, etched by Antonio Fantuzzi (Zerner AF.38, see Washington 1987, no. 65). Primaticcio's drawing in the Louvre, inv. no. 8571, shows the influence of Michelangelo's Last Judgement, which Primaticcio could have seen in 1540, see Paris 2004, no. 85. For the interpretation of the subject, most probably based on a contemporary French edition of Ovid's Metamorphosis, see Paris 2004, no. 86.
