Bartsch interpreted the monogram 'ALF' as referring to Lafréry, while Nagler in Monogrammisten as A. Labacco, on the basis that 'restituit' suggests Nicolas Beatrizet only retouched the plate engraved before by another artist. The print reproduces Michelangelo's drawing for Tommaso Cavalieri, today at Windsor Castle, inv. no. 12766.
