Comment
Reproduces the antique statue today in the Louvre, once in the Belvedere statue court. The print was part of Lafreri's 1573 edition of the Speculum. Michael Bury claims that Beatrizet's imaginative solutions to the representation of antique sculpture enabled him to combine accuracy with an attractive visual effect; see M. Bury, 'Beatrizet and the "Reproduction" of Antique Relief Sculpture', Print Quarterly 1996, 2, p. 126, and Bury 2001, no. 85. The plate is conserved today in the Calcografia, Rome, inv. no. 1357, with Rossi's publisher's address erased and with the addition of the inscription: "Roma presso la Calcografia Camerale".
