Comment
There were two virtually identical prints by Nicolas Beatrizet of this subject. The first version in reverse (Bianchi no. 111) was published by Salamanca, while this second print belonged to Antonio Lafreri's 1573 edition of the Speculum. According to Michael Bury in 2001, this is a good example of the competitiveness between the two publishers, who sometimes employed the same printmaker to engrave the same subject (as in the case of the Pantheon, Bartsch XV.268.100). This competition led to the eventual partnership between the two publishers in 1553.
