Comment
This series of eight plates was also published by Giovanni Battista Landini in the book Esequie del serenissimo principe Francesco in Florence in 1634. Those prints have printed text on the verso. It is difficult to decide which type is the earlier. For the similarity between these emblems and Bernini's funeral monuments; see Roberto Battaglia,'Un'opera del Bernini ritrovata: La memoria del. Merenda,' Le Arti 4 (1942), pp. 356-60.
