Schäfer, Dorit and Vollmer, Angela, exhibition catalogue, Karlsruhe, Staatliche Kunsthalle 2005 Comment Around 1656 Della Bella visited Rome where he drew several drawings that he later used to this series, etched probably in Florence. The French Privilege on the fifth plate (inv. nos 19984 and 19885) suggests that the series was also intended to be published in France. There is a study to the figure of Cosimo III de' Medici drawing the Medici vase in the Royal Collection, Windsor, RCIN 904649.
