Schäfer, Dorit and Vollmer, Angela, exhibition catalogue, Karlsruhe, Staatliche Kunsthalle 2005 Comment On the basis of the French King's privilege on the third plate, Anthony Blunt dated the series to 1650, before Della Bella's return to Paris; see Anthony Blunt, The Drawings of G. B. Castiglione and Stefano della Bella in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle, London 1954, p. 90. Jessica Mack-Andrick, however, supposed that Della Bella executed the etchings shortly after his return to Florence, also around 1650 and sent the plates back to Paris; see Karlsruhe 2005. There is a related drawing in the Biblioteca Marucelliana, inv. no. Stefano della Bella, Vol. D, no. 58. Inventory Number 19948 Classification Prints: Italian: 17th century: Mounted I |
