Comment
The face of the man in a fur hat comes from Rembrandt's self-portrait etching; see New Hollstein, Dutch & Flemish 69. The soldier on the left is very close to a plate from the series Principi del disegno, see De Vesme and Massar 1971, no. 387. Caroline Joubert dates the print to Della Bella's stay in France, before 1650; Caen 1998, p. 79.
