Comment
This series is dedicated to Monsieur Destissac, a young boy selected as one of the playfellows of Louis XIV. According to Massar, this set of prints might have been made to honor that the young Louis started riding in 1645, which is also the most probable date for the series. It is also possible that the series was designed to illustrate a handbook on horse riding; see Karlsruhe 2005.
