Comment
The print belongs to a series deriving from the decorations of the Capella Grimani in San Francesco della Vigna, executed by Battista Franco in 1561. This composition relates to one of the eight tondi of the vault, decorated with allegorical figures. It had been suggested that the prints were not executed by Franco himself, however, Dillon in Venice 1981 claims that their technique corresponds with the prints generally regarded as autograph. A related red chalk drawing to this composition is preserved in the Albertina, Vienna, inv. no. 1568.
