Comment
The composition reflects Raphael's Canigiani Holy Family, in Alte Pinakothek, Munich, engraved also by Giulio Bonasone (Bartsch XV.128.65), but with the addition of Parmigianinesque elements. This etching was the source of Schiavone's painting of Sacra Conversazione, today at the British Embassy, Rome (see Richardson 1980, no. 172).
